In January of 2016, Governor Cuomo made $190 million available to support Upstate airport improvements. Eligible airports were asked to complete and submit applications detailing an infrastructure renovation plan in order to compete for a maximum project award of $40 million.
Together, County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo along with Airport Director Michael Giardino and his staff put together a transformative, state-of-the-art proposal to push the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) into the 21st Century.
In September, Governor Cuomo came to the ROC to announce that not only was the County’s competitive proposal selected for the grant but it was awarded the maximum amount of $40 million from the State of New York.
The ROC Airport’s innovative project design proposal will transform the building into a high-tech “smart terminal,” while enhancing safety and security and optimizing opportunities for an improved passenger experience complete with modern amenities.
The ROC is the gateway to our community. At the end of the two year revitalization project the ROC will be a state-of-the-art airport of which we all can be proud.
